Gearing up once again for Co-op Week
t’s called Co-op Week and it’s our favourite week of the year.
Each November for five days, we take time out of our business day to raise money in support of our development projects. Over the past 13 years, we have contributed to projects in Nepal, El Salvador, Ghana, the Canadian Arctic and now, Rwanda.
It’s easy and it’s fun. From waffle breakfasts to silent auction, toonie toss to team competitions,
duck race to pie toss, employees pay to play games and have fun at all our sites.
But the bulk of the funds raised come from Bang for Your Buck Bingo. Employees commit to a set donation
amount through payroll deductions for the entire year in return for BINGO cards.
Over the years, we have raised over $600,000 for the Co-operative Development Foundation. Our contributions are then matched 3:1 by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). It is exciting to know that because of the generosity of our employees and board of directors, more than $2.4 million has gone to foster growth and opportunity for families who belong to small rural co-operatives.
It makes us very proud!
