Gay Lea has created a legacy of international development over the past eight years, supporting different projects on different continents around the globe. Our work has taken us from the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal, to the cashew orchards of El Salvadore and the local markets of Kpandai in Northern Ghana. We have recently turned our sights toward home for the next three years as we begin plans to support development in the Canadian Arctic.
We are committed to raising $100,000 every three years for international development projects. We raise this money through fundraising events during Co-op Week, proceeds from the silent auction of items often generously donated by our suppliers, and through employee payroll deductions throughout the year.
Co-op Week is an exciting themed week of games and activities. For a small donation, employees compete for the title of champion, whether the sport be darts, putting, cow toss, foosball, or pie throwing. Our most popular tradition is the international potluck at our Longlife plant, where we enjoy the food from dozens of different cultures.
Each year, our board of directors attends the waffle breakfast. They are also now partnering with our delegates to increase fundraising, helping to raise thousands of dollars more.
