Gay Lea Foods announces M.C. Milot as new independent director

Mississauga, Ontario, May 8, 2024 – Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Limited (Gay Lea Foods) today announced the appointment of Marie-Claude Milot as a new independent director to its board of directors. Delegates ratified the appointment at a Special General Meeting of Shareholders on May 7, 2024.

Gay Lea Foods is a leading Canadian dairy processor, with members on more than 1,300 dairy farms in Ontario and Manitoba. With its membership accounting for roughly one-third of Ontario’s dairy farms, the co-operative plays a significant role in the province’s dairy industry.

“We are thrilled to have Marie-Claude join our board as an independent director. Her extensive professional experience in human resources, international business and in the dairy industry will be an asset to Gay Lea Foods as the co-operative continues to execute its strategy with significant transformation and growth projects over the next several years,” said Gay Lea Foods chair, Rob Goodwill.

“I am honoured to join the Gay Lea Foods board of directors and I look forward to leveraging my knowledge to help drive success for our farmer members and employees, and ultimately, to enrich our communities co-operatively,” said Milot. “Dairy is a very interesting world and I have great respect for our members, the work they do and the resilience they have.”

Milot has a background in dairy both personally, coming from a family of dairy farmers, and professionally, having retired in March 2024 after seven years as Chief of Human Resources Officer and Chief Transformation Officer at dairy co-operative Darigold, based in Seattle, Washington.

She joins fellow independent director, Dean McCann, on the Gay Lea Foods board, and ten producer directors elected by the co-operative’s delegates. The Gay Lea Foods’ board of directors set policies and make decisions on behalf of the broader membership.
