Tim Schrijver is the son of Gay Lea members Leo and Gerda Schrijver of Leges Farms Ltd. in Thedford, ON. The 22 year old can add another medal to his growing list. He was awarded the senior national championship on Sunday, November 9th at the 2014 RBC Rowing Championships, held just outside Victoria, B.C.
Tim was part of a two-man team that won a Gold Medal in Men’s Pairs with partner Martin Barakso at the National Championships. The event featured a number of Olympic medallists. With high winds and nasty conditions, the rowers were expecting the worst on the final day, as the weather forecast was calling for some wild storms. Despite the tough weather conditions, Tim and his teammate completed the race of a lifetime.
The National Rowing Championships are what is called a “small boat regatta” with all of the athletes racing in pairs or singles. Archives of the races can be found at live-stream-2014-rbc-national-rowing-championships. Following the National Rowing Championships, Schrijver and the rest of his teammates began their training program in preparation for the all-important Olympic qualifying regatta this summer. The local rower hopes to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Congratulations to Tim Schrijver as he pursues his Olympic dream!
